SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (WHDH) - A monkey who escaped from the Zoo in Forest Park has been returned home.

The zoo was temporarily closed while employees tried to recapture the monkey, who escaped from his enclosure for a couple of days.

Dizzy,  a 12-pound guenon monkey, twisted a door knob and let himself out when a zoo employee who had been cleaning the enclosure exited to answer a question from a visitor.

According to a posting on the zoo’s official website, this is a circumstance that “has never happened at the zoo and is very rare.”

The zoo said no one was in danger.

The zoo announced Thursday Dizzy had been returned to his home and the zoo would reopen Friday at 10 a.m.
