NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The former head of New York’s prestigious Dalton School is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in the 1980s.
A lawsuit filed Thursday in Newark, New Jersey, accuses Gardner Dunnan of molesting the girl when she lived with Dunnan and his wife and worked as a family helper in the fall of 1986.
The unnamed woman says the abuse occurred at Dunnan’s homes in New York and New Jersey.
The suit seeks unspecified damages.
Dunnan didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. A message left at the school wasn’t immediately returned.
Dunnan was headmaster from the mid-1970s until 1997, when news reports quoted Dunnan saying he was stepping down because of school officials’ concerns with his leadership.
