STURBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — A former owner of a Massachusetts pizzeria will not spend time behind bars after pleading guilty to cheating the state out of more than $100,000 in meals taxes.
Theodore Metaxas pleaded guilty Friday to charges of willful failure to account and pay over tax and willful delivery of a false tax return. Prosecutors say the 53-year-old ex-owner of Enrico’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Sturbridge only reported credit card sales to the state Revenue Department and failed to report cash sales.
By doing so he failed to pay more than $114,000 in state and local meals taxes.
Metaxas received a suspended two-year prison sentence and was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
The pizzeria remains in business under a new owner.
