WORCESTER (WHDH) — Snow and rain created a messy commute for drivers Monday morning, delaying school openings across the state.

The Massachusetts Turnpike was dusted in snow throughout much of the early morning, and Worcester saw enough accumulation to delay school openings for two hours. The speed limit was reduced to 40 miles per hour on the MassPike.

Worcester, along with many cities across Massachusetts, enacted a street parking ban Sunday evening. Worcester is expected to see 3-5 inches of snow in the morning.

The snow mixed with freezing rain, that led to slippery roads.

Colder weather lies ahead in the week, bringing below-freezing temperatures the weekend before Christmas.
