BOSTON (WHDH) - Doctors are sharing advice to ensure a fun and safe holiday for both kids and pets.

Doctors suggest:
  • Start trick or treating during the daylight
  • Wear light or reflective costumes at night
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Make sure children can see clearly through their costumes

Experts advise those who have pets to:
  • Call the vet or poison control if your dog gets into the candy; chocolate can be dangerous for dogs
  • Consider installing a baby gate to keep pets from running out as trick-or-treaters come to the door
  • For those who choose to dress up their pets, make sure the costume doesn’t restrict breathing or vision

The dogs featured in festive costumes are a few of the many who are up for adoption by the MSPCA.
