Social media helped people in Paris notify loved ones about their safety Friday night.

Thousands turned to Facebook to check on loved ones after the city suffered six terror attacks.

People in Paris were "checking in" using website’s "safety check" tool.

The feature, which launched last year, asks those who live in a disaster area to click an "I’m safe" button, which then lets their friends know.
