Two people are in serious condition after they were struck by a car in Fairhaven early Saturday morning.

According to Fairhaven police, officers responded to Sycamore Street just after 2 a.m. after receiving a report of two people lying in the roadway.

When police arrived, they found an unconscious 40-year-old woman, and a 50-year-old man who was walking.

Police believe the man and woman were walking northbound when a car struck them from behind near the intersection of Morton Street.

They were launched approximately 25 feet north, and landed near Winsor Street.

Both victims were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, and the woman was later airlifted to Boston Medical Center.

Police said they were notified of the incident by a passing snowplow driver. Both victims were unconscious when they were first found.

Fairhaven officers canvassed the neighborhood and spoke with local residents to determine if anyone saw or heard the incident.

The situation is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Fairhaven Police Detectives at 508-997-7421.
