FALL RIVER, MASS. (WHDH) - A 21-year-old Fall River man is facing criminal charges in connection with an incident last month that left a 17-year veteran of the department seriously injured after being dragged by an ATV, officials said.
Officers responding to the area of Delcar and Robeson streets around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 found the officer injured in the middle of the road, according to the Fall River Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed the officer had been dragged several hundred feet by an ATV rider who was attempting to flee the area
The rider was later identified as Jeremias Cabral, who was arrested Monday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, assault and battery on a police officer resulting in serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle resulting in serious injury, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
A 17-year-old who was present during the incident will be charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
