A Pennsylvania family doing renovations on their home had quite the surprise when they discovered rare Hollywood movie posters from the 1920s-30s were resting just beneath their feet.
Robert Basta has been renovating homes for 38 years.
“You never know what you’ll find,” Basta said. “I always find something interesting.”
His favorite find is usually the old papers. It used to be common to put newspapers under flooring.
His new favorite discovery is a set of 17 rare movie posters, which are now safely secured at an auction house.
His sons discovered the posters. They were helping him out while he was out of town.
When they found the posters, they texted him a picture.
"These posters are one-of-a-kind, never-before-seen, pieces of Hollywood history," said Grey Smith of Heritage Auctions.
The Hollywood Golden Age posters feature stars like Clark Gable, Maureen O’Sullivan, Jean Harlow and Jimmy Durante, and are worth $240,000.
One of the posters, a one-of-a-kind 1932 Tarzan poster, could sell for as much as $80,000.
Whatever Basta gets from the auction, his sons will get a cut.
Basta already has ideas for spending the money.
"I can’t do this type of work anymore,” said Basta. “I’m going to open up my own sushi restaurant. It allows me to reinvent myself."
