BOSTON (WHDH) — Patriots fans lined up at Gillette Stadium to take the team up on their free jersey exchange.
Anybody that wanted to was able to trade in their number 81 Hernandez jerseys for another player’s.
It was a bittersweet offer from the Patriots. Some fans are still in shock about the charges against Hernandez. Others were more than willing to move on and support a different tight.
"I went with a Gronk, that's the best tight end! I made a mistake getting a Hernandez in the first place! I should have just bought a Gronk in the first place! I wouldn't be here now," said Steven McGrath, Patriots fan.
Not everyone exchanged their jerseys. Some saw the #81 as a collector’s item. Some have been seen on eBay with bids at upwards of $1000 or more.
