A state police sergeant who recently dealt with a family tragedy, helped avoid a similar tragedy on the Cape.
Sergeant John Kotfila was working the desk Sunday night when he received several reports of a car going the wrong way down Route-6 in Sandwich.
With his help, a trooper was able to stop that car in Bourne and arrest the driver.
Police say the 44-year-old man from Fall River was drunk.
Less than a month ago, his son, John Kotfila Jr., was killed by a wrong-way driver in Florida.
The 30-year-old was killed when his cruiser collided with a wrong-way driver on a highway near Tampa.
The woman who reported the crash says she believes he sacrificed himself to save her life.
