ORLANDO, Fla.(WHDH)–According to a Washington Post report the FBI is now clarifying the situation saying Ibragim Todashev was killed during a violent confrontation, initiated by him.
Sources tell the paper the Chechan man was unarmed when he was shot and killed by an FBI agent last week.
It was initially reported that Todashev was killed during questioning after he lunged at an agent with a knife. Now an American Islamic group in Florida is calling for an independent investigation to find out whether excessive force was used by the FBI.
Todashev allegedly told the investigators that he and Tsarnaev were responsible for a triple murder in Waltham back in 2011.
Sources tell NBC News the murder was part of a drug rip off and Todashev and Tsarnaev killed the men because the victims would have been able to identify them.
FBI officials say they have begun their own investigation into Todashev's death.
