BOSTON (AP) — The Boston office of the FBI has a new leader.
FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday named Joseph Bonavolonta special agent in charge of the office, which oversees Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and New Hampshire.
He replaces Harold Shaw, who retired last month.
It will be the 45-year-old Bonavolonta’s second stint in Boston. He was previously assistant special agent in charge from 2013 until 2017.
Bonavolonta entered FBI service in May 1996 as an investigative specialist in the New York office, where he spent many years investigating the Bonanno crime family and earned commendations for his efforts.
He has also served at FBI headquarters in Washington and in Newark, New Jersey.
Bonavolonta is from Montclair, New Jersey, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Seton Hall University.
