Federal prosecutors want Catherine Greig to serve another three years in prison for refusing to testify about who helped "Whitey" Bulger during their 16 years on the run.

The 65-year-old girlfriend of the former mobster pleaded guilty to criminal contempt after she repeatedly refused to testify before a federal grand jury.

Greig’s cooperation could have reduced her sentence. She is already serving an eight-year prison term for helping Bulger avoid capture. She pleaded guilty to a criminal contempt charge in February for refusing to testify.

According to court paperwork released on Tuesday, "Of course, the defendant had, and continues to have, within her control the ability to try and reduce her sentence by retracting her refusal to testify and telling what she knows about her 16 years with Bulger."

She was captured, along with Bulger, at a condo in Santa Monica, California, in 2011.

She previously pleaded guilty to harboring Bulger and identity fraud.

Greig is currently not scheduled to be released from federal prison until 2019.

Greig is scheduled to be sentenced in U.S. District Court on Thursday. The contempt charge has no fixed maximum penalty.
