MEDWAY, Mass. (WHDH) — A fire at an NSTAR electrical substation caused thousands to lose power Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. Originally, around 6,000 people were without power.

NSTAR had to cut the power after initial reports claimed that power had been fully restored. This was so the Medway Fire Department could continue work to extinguish the fire. Around 9,000 were affected by this second outage.

As of 1:14 p.m., NSTAR has restored power to over 6,000 customers. At the time of this writing, about 2,000 remain without power.

Officials believe that the fire was caused by a failed transformer.

There was no report of injuries.
