A fire in Taunton forced a few sleeping families from their homes Wednesday night.

The fire broke out on Pine St. around 1 a.m.

It is believed to have started on the second floor, and traveled up into the roof of the home.

The fire chief says the building has seven apartments, five of which were occupied at the time.

Everyone is said to have escaped safely, and the Red Cross is helping those who have been displaced.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire is still under investigation, and the chief says it doesn’t appear to have been suspicious, and may have started in a second floor kitchen.
