LAWRENCE, MASS. (WHDH) - Police and fire crews were on the scene of a fire in Lawrence Tuesday afternoon.

The fire sparked at 1 p.m. in an apartment building at the intersection of East Haverhill and Prospect streets. Residents said the fire spread quickly.

“It was so fast, so fast,” said resident Sabrina Morgan. “As soon as we got out, the third floor blew up.”

Firefighters rushed in to rescue a woman who remained trapped inside. The woman and one firefighter were taken to the hospital, though both are expected to be OK.

The Red Cross said they are assisting around 30 people who were displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
