HALIFAX, MASS. (WHDH) - One firefighter was taken to the hospital while battling a massive house fire Monday in Halifax.

The fire sparked at a house on Thompson Street Monday afternoon. Firefighters said establishing water supply was difficult because the house is far back from the road at the end of a long driveway. Monday’s gusty winds also made it hard to extinguish the fire.

No one was home at the time when the fire broke out but the family who lived at the house is now trying to find their dog. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and is expected to be OK.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
