FAIRHAVEN, MASS. (WHDH) - Just before 7 a.m. Thursday morning, the Fairhaven Fire Department received report of a fishing vessel on fire near Washington Street.
Upon arrival, officials said they identified heavy fire coming from the pilot house of a 82-foot fishing vessel.
Using first water and then environmentally-compatible foam, firefighters worked for an hour before the blaze was under control.
“It was determined that welders were in the bow of the fishing vessel utilizing a cutting torch and attempted to use a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire,” Fairhaven Fire said in a statement. “The fishing vessel’s owner was present and stated that the vessel had recently been retired from service.”
No injuries were reported.
