Firefighters in Newton responded to two boats on fire Tuesday morning.
The call came in around 3:30 a.m. from an employee of the Newton Yacht Club.
The employee reported one boat on fire.
Once on scene, crews had issues fighting back the flames. Boat owners at the yacht club helped the fire department lay lines over their boats.
A second boat caught fire, and both had to be cut loose from the dock to save surrounding boats.
Other boats and parts of the dock still suffered some damage from the flames.
They say boat owners have 24-hour access at the yacht club, but it’s believed that no one was on scene when the boats caught fire.
Crews are working to keep oil and gas from drifting down the river.
The flames have since been put out, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
