Flooding fears grow as rain soaks Massachusetts

MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA (WHDH) - The latest storm to hit New England brought the threat of flooding instead of snow.

The National Weather Service placed flood advisories and watches across the region in anticipation of heavy rain Thursday across the six states.

Officials in Maynard are concerned about the Assabet River as water levels continue to rise. The river was under a flood warning Thursday as at least 2 inches of rain is expected. Those who live on the banks of the river have not sustained any damage but are watching conditions as backyard flooding is possible.

In the town of Middleborough, the Taunton River is the concern. Middleborough has been among the hardest by the rain. Firefighters say the town has been dealing with flood waters of up to two feet:

Some residents in Middleborough were ordered to evacuate their homes. The fire department has kayaks and a boat ready in case any residents need to be evacuated.
