Some holiday cheer was spread in Florida on Wednesday, and it came in the form of a traffic stop.
Police officers were pulling people over for running stop signs, or for seat belt violations. But instead of making the drivers pay up, they gave them something they’ll never forget.
While the officers got the license and registration of the drivers, they got other information too, and radioed that in to fellow officers standing by in Walmart.
The officers casually asked the unsuspecting drivers what they were shopping for this Christmas.
The officers said it was very easy to keep them distracted.
"I think they’re so in shock that they have contact with the police that they don’t remember telling us five minutes earlier what they needed for the present," said Officer Joe Fussell of North Port Police.
After the elves finished their shopping spree, a special sleigh made the delivery.
Officers said it’s a way to build trust with the community and spread cheer to those who really needed it.
