BOSTON (WHDH) - Long-time 7NEWS photographer Charlie Ballantine was honored with the first-ever Massachusetts Broadcasting Hall of Fame’s Pioneer award.

Ballantine retired from WHDH after more than 30 years, many of them on overnights, gathering stories for 7NEWS Today in New England. For a decade, he worked closely with 7’s Steve Cooper who says Ballantine, “captured more dramatic images and fire rescues than every photographer in New England combined.”
Cooper calls Ballantine, “A news legend in New England!”

This is the first time the Massachusetts Broadcasting Hall of Fame has given the Pioneer Award. It recognizes “proven trailblazers in the evolution of television news.”

Two other New England television photographers also received the award.
