DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — A former professional boxer from Massachusetts has been sentenced to six years in prison for an assault that left his girlfriend unconscious.

The Patriot Ledger reported Tuesday that 39-year-old former cruiserweight Christopher McInerney, of Weymouth, was sentenced after pleading guilty to charges including attempted murder and kidnapping.

McInerney’s girlfriend told police he beat her after they got into an argument while leaving a bar in May 2017.

She told authorities he punched her and choked her for several hours. She eventually escaped and went to a neighbor’s house for help.

McInerney has been given 282 days credit for time served since he turned himself in two days after the assault.
