George H.W. Bush recently received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

The award was presented to the former president at his home in Maine by one of Kennedy’s grandsons.

The award recognizes Bush’s political courage shown during a 1990 budget compromise in which he agreed to raise taxes in an effort to reduce the
federal deficit. The move went against his earlier campaign promise to not raise taxes.
