Freezing rain and icy conditions prompted more than 70 crashes in Central Massachusetts this morning. Mass State Police say approximately 30 people have suffered minor injuries.

The worst crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. on 290 westbound near exit 14. That crash involved over 50 vehicles, including three tractor trailers, and police say the scene was spread out over at least 100 yards. Involved vehicles are being removed and placed in two nearby parking lots to open the roadway.

Also this morning, the Lowell Connector roadway in the Merrimack Valley was closed for approximately 45 minutes after icy conditions caused multiple crashes. That roadway has since reopened and the road has been treated.

Officials plan to provide an update on road conditions and the cleanup from today's crashes early this afternoon. Stay with 7News for the latest details.
