It’s been wet all day in Downtown Boston – but you might be surprised to know that it only amounted to 0.09" of rain at the airport (as of 7pm). Compare that to 0.50" in New Bedford, where steady rain has been falling all day. This will continue to be the trend for the next 6-8 hours; the steadier rain will be focused SE of a BOS-PVD line. Rain totals could get up to 1.5" for some areas on Cape Cod and the Islands before the wet weather moves out early tomorrow morning.
I said last night that it was looking more likely for some wet snowflakes/wintry mix to show up with this moisture… and that forecast still looks to be on track. Much colder air will be moving in from the NW, and if that cold pushes in before the precip moves out the two will collide for some wet snowflakes and/or sleet. This could happen between 11pm and 3am. I don’t expect any accumulation but with that cold moving in to stay for a bit, there could be some slick spots on the roads tomorrow morning. What is wet now could freeze later – especially in some of those colder suburban spots (like around Norwood and Milton).
We’re dry by the morning commute tomorrow, but again – MUCH colder air is working in to stay for a couple of days. Our highs Monday will struggle to get past 40° in many spots! Plus, we have to add in the chilly breeze out of the NW. That breeze could take the real-feel of temps down closer to freezing through the day. Heading to Gillette tomorrow? BUNDLE UP! Temps at kick-off will be around 30°.
The cold sticks around through Wednesday, but then we get a warm-up for Thanksgiving. Maybe you have a family "turkey-bowl" planned? By that I mean, family flag-football in the back yard/park. Does anyone do that here? Afternoon temps will be in the mid 50s for Turkey-Day, under mostly sunny skies. AWESOME. It gets even warmer for Black Friday. If you have plans to wait in line outside of a store all night, you won’t freeze! Lows on Friday will be in the 40s and highs close to 60°.
After tonight, we’re dry through the work-week! Have a great one, and GO PATS! – Breezy
