DEDHAM, MASS. (WHDH) - Karen Read appeared in Dedham Superior Court Friday ahead of her upcoming second degree murder trial for the death of her boyfriend John O’Keefe in January.
The 42-year-old Mansfield woman is accused of backing her SUV into the Boston Police Officer and leaving him in a snowbank outside a Canton home.
The 16-year veteran of the Boston police force was found unresponsive in the snowbank on Fairview Road before being pronounced dead hours later at Good Samaritan Hospital, officials said at the time.
Read’s attorney has maintained his client’s innocence and has asserted that investigators have doctored evidence.
“The evidence will come out and the questions you’re asking now will be answered,” responded attorney David Yanetti when asked if it could be possible his client was framed.
Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey responded to Yanetti’s claims, stating “As with every criminal defendant, the discovery process assures that defense will be able to review the Commonwealth’s evidence prior to a trial. That process is overseen by a superior court judge.”
