Brrr…. quite the cold start out there this morning, especially where the snowpack is solid in central Mass and southern New Hampshire.  The morning low in Boston was 23 degrees, but much of MetroWest fell into the teens with single digits reported across the outer Route 2 corridor, west of 495.  Many folks in Central New England were in the single digits and lower teens this morning, certainly not good news for those folks who still don’t have power.

While we have a frigid start for this time of year, we do have warmer temps in the forecast.  While the warmth is a struggle to achieve today with highs only nudging the freezing mark (warm up that turkey soup!) , we will see the numbers jump to near 50 on Sunday thanks to a warm front that comes through tonight.  As that warm front moves through tonight, temperatures actually rise a bit late tonight and early tomorrow, so lows won’t be nearly as cold.

Monday we bask in the “warmth” as highs reach the mid 50s.  However… what goes up this time of year, must come down, and crashing down in some cases.  A cold front pushes through Monday evening with a sprinkle or two, but the bigger impact is the chill that pours back in.  Tuesday afternoon will be hard pressed to crack the 30 degree mark for many.

The cold blast this go around is only a one day event as another warm front pushes in overnight Tuesday, into Wednesday morning. Also pushing in will be some mixed precipitation, allowing for a few slick spots Wednesday morning, especially north and west of Boston.  The precipitation won’t be heavy, and turns to spotty showers for the afternoon as highs near 50 again.

By the end of the week, you guessed it… more cold air.

Enjoy the weekend! Go Pats!
