BOSTON (WHDH) - The deadly shooting at a nightclub in Orlando over the weekend is raising security concerns across the country and in Boston.
Governor Charlie Baker spoke on Monday about the attack.
This was the first time the governor had a chance to speak publicly since the attack.
Baker said the shooting hit close to home. He said he spent the weekend talking to his brother, who is gay, as well as some of his friends.
Baker said he had an all-hands public safety meeting over the weekend and reached out to members of the LGBT community to offer support and security at future events.
He also said there is no room for this type of hate against the LGBT community, or against Muslims, in the state.
“I think this guy, based on early reports, hated, with extreme prejudice, people who are part of the LGBT community,” Baker said. “I think that’s one fact everybody can agree on. Beyond that, let’s
let the investigation go forward.”
Baker also said there was increased security at Logan Airport and on the MBTA over the weekend and there will continue to be a heightened security presence for the next couple of days.
