I got a tweet today that read, "Wind, rain, storms! When will it end?!" Ah, summer-lovin' is a fickle thing, isn't it? We LOVE summer when the gettin' is good – but it can also turn on us with stormy weather, like we saw today. You make big plans to head to the beach or to have a backyard cookout – and then WHAM! The skies open up, and it sounds like someone is throwing buckets of water on your house. These are days when it is not only helpful, but also quite vital, to know the forecast before you head out. In fact, it's a good idea to have a good weather app on hand-held-device (7News has a free one that you can download! #shamlessplug) so that you can keep an eye on the sky whenever – and wherever you are.
I'm still waiting on more rainfall reports from the day to come in, but it looks like the lion's share (in E. Mass.) was along the South Coast early this morning. All of the storms today were slow movers, which meant they had ample time over any one location to rain and rain and rain… before moving on. For anyone who may have been walking out of work in Boston around 5pm – you know what happens when the skies suddenly open and turn your normal commute home into something more like getting slimed on Nickelodeon. It ain't pretty.
Reports of lightning have been coming in from the storm that moved through North Shore communities this evening. A CVS store in Lynn was reportedly hit by lighting, as was a home in Beverly. CRAZY stuff. This is why we say, "When thunder roars, go indoors." It may seem like I overdo this saying, but it really can't be overdone. Lightning can travel (on average) 10-15 miles. So even if there's BLUE SKY above you… if you can HEAR THUNDER – you're too close for comfort. Get inside.
Okay – Off my soapbox now. The threat for storms will be with us again tomorrow afternoon/evening. While these will be much less widespread, the threat Tuesday is over E. Mass. So, MetroWest will once again need to keep all eyes on the skies. Some of these storms could be severe; with hail possible, damaging winds, localized downpours/flooding.
Back to lovin' summer, though. Some of us LOVE a good summer storm (I do!). Some of us also LOVE the 90° days! Well those hot-summah-lovahs are in for a treat this week, as we could be in store for a potential heat wave. We'd need 3 days of 90° or above in Boston to call it a "heat wave," and we'll make a good run at it with a BIG boost in temps this week. Tomorrow will be in the upper 80s to near 90… and the heat continues to build.
Triple H weather: Hot, Hazy and Humid. My other favorite social media comment today said, "Regarding the 'Frizz Factor:' Some of us LOVE our frizzles!" Rock on, you frizzled fashionistas. All the more hairspray for me! :c) – Breezy
