Front is crossing through Southern New England now. Thunderstorms did fire up, but like so many times this summer, they just didn’t have the legs to stand and deliver. It seemed that just as they got going, they lost their will to live and faded out. Nonetheless, there still may be a few roaming around into the late evening, so prepare for a sudden storm and a few short-lived downpours. Unfortunately, there will be more misses than hits with these storms.

Which means the dryness deepens across the Commonwealth (and much of New England for that matter). No serious threats for rain in the coming week as the pattern just features warm, steamy air and very few fronts.

We’re swapping out the airmasses tomorrow. We’ll trade near-90 degree heat for highs that struggle to make 70! Undoubtedly, it will catch a few by surprise – but not you, right? Cool winds will ramp up overnight and carry into the first part of tomorrow thanks to a fresh, new high pressure system moving in.

The mornings will be cool over much of the holiday weekend – Labor Day being the exception. Temps could even dip as low as the 40s by Saturday morning with this autumn-like airmass. But the turnaround will be swift into the latter half of the weekend; highs will soar to near 90 by Monday…and Tuesday…and Wednesday.

Yes, it’s another hot spell for New England. Could it be the last of the warm season? I’m not so certain of that, but they certainly are numbered.

If you’re heading out of town, have a safe holiday weekend.

And Goooooo PATS!!
