New research shows that many patients are not getting the recommended treatment for blood clots.

Blood clots are one of the most common causes of preventable death. However, research shows that more than 35 percent of patients at high risk for blood clots are not getting preventative treatment.

Experts said they hope treatment rates will improve as electronic patient records become more common.
