An Indiana woman got a real scare when her hairdresser noticed a lump on her neck that ended up being a tumor on her thyroid.
Jane Hixson said she was getting her hair cut when the hairdresser noticed the abnormal growth. Hixson knew she had to get it checked out.
"It’s good to be proactive in any area of your life, especially about your health and for me, I have people who depend on me," said Hixson. "I have a really wonderful husband and I love my kids and I want to be the best version of myself, which includes being the most healthy version of myself for that."
After undergoing an ultrasound, Hixson was diagnosed with a tumor on her thyroid. Dr. Tod Huntley removed it surgically.
"A visible mass in the neck should definitely be looked at," said Huntley. The tumor in Hixson’s neck ended up being benign.
Huntley said a mass in the neck could mean other problems, such as hypothyroidism.
