BOSTON (WHDH) — Local athletes, Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir, will be heading to the Winter Olympics in Sochi this February. Marissa and Simon will be competing in the pairs figure skating competition.
Simon was born August 20, 1987 and moved to the United States from Moscow, Russia when he was 2-years-old; he now lives in Sudbury. Marissa was born August 20, 1990 in Cranston, R.I. but now lives in Boston and trains at the Skating Club of Boston.
Castelli started skating at age four because her mother, Lori, and is a figure skating coach, and Shnapir started to skate at age 6 after watching Scott Hamilton on TV.
The pair began skating together in April 2006 and are coached by Bobby Martin, Carrie Wall, Mark Mitchell; Julie Marcotte is their choreographer.
Marissa and Simon were the 2013 U.S. Champions and were bronze medalists at the Four Continents in 2013.
