BOSTON (WHDH) - The MBTA announced Tuesday hoverboards are now prohibited on all MBTA property, including subways, buses, stations, trains and commuter boats.

Due to a string of recent injuries, fires and explosions associated with hoverboards, the MBTA has decided that they are a safety risk.

According to the MBTA, transit systems in New York, California and Chicago have restricted customers from boarding the trains with hoverboards.

MBTA personnel and police will inform customers of the ban if they are found on MBTA property with the devices.
