REVERE, MASS. (WHDH) - A Boston man is facing criminal charges after allegedly switching from bumming a cigarette to attempting to rob a man at the MBTA’s Wonderland Station early Tuesday morning.

At 2 a.m., a man later identified as Mario Porrato, 37, approached another man at Wonderland and asked for a cigarette, according to police reports.

When the man told Porrata he did not have any cigarettes but was planning to buy some soon, Porrata allegedly said “How about I just rob you instead?” and motioned as though he had a weapon.

The victim fled, chased by Porrata, and called 911, according to police reports. Porrata stopped chasing the man, but the man gave police a description and Revere police arrested Porrata nearby.

He was arrested on charges including armed assault with attempt to rob.
