HUDSON, MASS. (WHDH) - Kindergarten students at Farley Elementary School in Hudson invited a State Police trooper over for lunch Friday after a photo showed him having lunch with a panhandler.

In May, Trooper Luke Bonin was spotted by a passerby on the side of the road sitting with a woman.

The department did some digging and found out that Trooper Bonin had spotted the woman panhandling on the side of the road in Fall River and continued driving to a local restaurant. The trooper ordered two meals and returned to the woman on the side of the road.

The woman saw the trooper and got up, saying she knew she shouldn’t be there and she would leave. But the officer told her she was fine, sat down, and offered her the meals, telling her to pick one.

According to the post, the two sat, had a meal and had a conversation.

After hearing of this, one of the kindergarten students thought it would be a good idea to pay if forward and invite Trooper Bonin to lunch.

The class made a banner thanking Trooper Bonin and sent it to him at the State Police barracks.

Trooper Bonin read a book to the class. He also brought a globe to the class, and asked each student to put a finger on it, while he talked about each student’s ability to leave a “positive mark on the world.”

After lunch, students had the chance to check out Trooper Bonin’s cruiser, play with the lights and talk over the PA system.
