HUDSON, Mass. (WHDH) — Two sisters have been arrested in connection with the robbery of an 81-year-old woman at a Petco on Wednesday evening, according to police.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., police found an elderly woman who had been robbed when she was loading items into her vehicle. According to the victim, she was approached by a younger female who engaged in small talk and attacked her, knocking her to the ground.

The female ran on foot, taking the victim’s purse.

The victim’s credit card was used at a Walmart in Hudson, where surveillance video captured the two suspects leaving the store with about $1,000 in purchases.

After pictures were released, Hudson Police received an anonymous tip on the identity of one of the suspects.

Anna Nevarez, 40, or Marlborough turned herself in to police after learning of the warrant issued for her arrest. She was charged with the unarmed robbery of a victim over the age of 65, assault and battery on a victim over the age of 65, credit card fraud over $250 and conspiracy larceny.

Lizette Nevarez, 47, of Jamaica Plain was charged with accessory after conspiracy and credit card fraud over $250.

“This was the case of an innocent, elderly woman who was the victim of a cowardly, senseless violent attack in our community. Every officer, every detective, and every agency involved was affected by the nature of this unimaginable act of violence,” said Lt. Richard DiPersio.

Shoppers said they can't believe anyone would do this.

"I think it's rotten. I think it's sick and people have nothing better to do than ruin other people’s christmases and she's a sweet little old lady," Alicia Garcia said.

Anna Nevarez was released on $500 bail, her sister Lizette will appear in court again on Thursday.
