ANDOVER, MASS. (WHDH) - The morning commute through Andover on Monday was far from ordinary for some motorists.

New Horizon, a silver hot air balloon, was forced to make an emergency landing on the side of Route 125 near the intersection of Route 28 in Andover around 7 a.m. after the flight became untethered, according to a spokesperson for The Trustees, a conservation organization sponsoring tours of the state.

Jay Preems shared a photo on Twitter that showed a massive hot air balloon sitting on the side of the highway.

“Interesting commute this AM thru Andover,” Preems wrote after snapping a photo of the bizarre sight.

State police say the 100-foot balloon was forced to land after experiencing fuel issues.

The Stevens-Coolidge Place says the balloon was heading to Crane Estate for an event before embarking on a tour of the state.

A fuel truck was called to the scene and the balloon went back on its way.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.

No injuries were reported.
