MACHIAS, Maine (AP) — A Maine jail inmate charged with a string of crimes, including rape, is facing conspiracy to commit murder and other charges.

This week, authorities say they received new information that 33-year-old Robert Boggia wanted to kill a witness involved in his case. He was charged Tuesday at jail.

Boggia has been jailed since Feb. 16 following a manhunt in Washington and Hancock counties. He was originally charged with gross sexual assault, robbery and burglary.

In addition to conspiracy to commit murder, Boggia is also facing a new charge of arson for a 2013 fire that destroyed his home in Blue Hill.

Boggia’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment on Wednesday.
