PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Traffic will be affected as inspectors take a look at a bridge connecting Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine, next month.

The inspection of the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is scheduled to start Monday, Nov. 2, and continue through Friday, Nov. 6. It may extend to Monday, Nov. 9.

The lift bridge carries the U.S. Route 1 Bypass over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth and Kittery.

The bridge will have lane closures as needed and as weather permits, from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. daily for up to six days.

Flag persons, electronic message signs, and warning signs will be used to notify drivers of the lane closure.

Drivers are asked to use alternate routes if possible to avoid delays
