WATERLOO, Iowa (WHDH) — An Iowa man risked his life to jump into a swollen river and rescue a deer.

Heavy rains in Waterloo, Iowa caused Cedar River to swell and the deer was swept away by the current. As people called 911, a man jumped into the water with his life jacket on and pulled the baby deer to safety.

“It feels good to see the city coming together in the midst of something like to be able to save the wildlife,” said Jamod Sallis, who helped in the rescue.

Not knowing what to do with the deer, the men drove the deer out of town and let it free.
