I’ve done a lot of school visits this week (to talk to the students about meteorology, of course), and it seems the kids always want to know "When will we see more snow?!" It’s so funny seeing their reactions when I bring up our record snowfall from last winter. It’s only the teachers who shake their heads in dismay at the mention of 110.6" of snow… This is probably because the kiddos didn’t have to shovel any of it! Well, we already know this winter has been VERY different from last winter – but with blooms popping up all over the place, are we DONE with winter for this year already? Personally, I don’t think so…
Today we were pulling the heavy coat back out of the closet, and tomorrow we can put it back in. By Wednesday we’re pulling out our rain coats and "irrigatin’ boots" (or "Wellies" if you’re from the U.K.) – and then the winter coat may be needed once again by the end of next week. In short, the temperature roller-coaster continues. What gives?! During this seasonal transition period, we just have to roll with the punches!
Another temp boost is trying to work in as we speak, but it’s also coming along with a SW breeze. Temps overnight tonight will be milder than last night with the help of that southwest breeze. Most spots bottom out in the upper 20s to the low 30s. Tomorrow we’re back into the 50s – but still with that SW breeze.
We will continue to see highs in the 50-degree range for the next few days, but it also comes along with a couple of chances for rain. The first will be Monday, as a system to our north drags a cold front through our area. This isn’t a washout by any means, but a few showers are possible around mid-day. The better shot for rain comes on Wednesday. Yes, another wet and windy Wednesday is on tap for us – though I don’t foresee this system bringing the crazy thunder-boomers we experienced last week (that was some storm, huh?!) Nevertheless, wind-driven rain and temps in the 50s is once again what we’re in store for by mid-week.
So, back to the BIG question from the kiddos: Is there more snow on the way?! Well, it does look as though there’s more COLD on the way. Temps drop back into the 30s as we near next weekend – and at the same time, we’ll likely be watching an approaching storm system… So, with cold in place and a storm system potentially impacting our area – Yes, there could be some snow on the way. For now, it looks as though that storm stays to our south, but it is worth mentioning. We’ll keep watching it, so stay tuned! The moral of the story is this: We can’t yet "stick a fork in it" for this winter yet, because we still live in New England and anything can happen! – Breezy
