We felt the start of it today, but the cold has only just begun to settle in.  We topped out in the low 50s for the last four days in a row, which made highs around 40 today feel very chilly.   Overnight tonight, the cold will really settle in and it looks like it’s going to stay for a while.

The forecast for the rest of the week is not only cold, it’s also dry.  This means that you’ll have to break out the hand lotion and maybe even the humidifier, but it also means we’ll get to enjoy lots of sunshine this week.  For me, this is the saving grace to the winter cold… There’s something about the sunshine that just makes cold days feel better.  If you find a spot in the direct sunlight, it can feel 5 to 10 degrees warmer than the temperature reads.

I realize that this isn’t really bitter cold, but it will be a few degrees colder than normal.  According to our climatological averages, we should be in the mid to upper 30s.  Temps will likely stay below freezing through Thursday.

The next best chance to see any rain or snow doesn’t arrive until the beginning of next week.  Forecast models have done away with our potential Saturday storm, and things are still unclear as to how Sunday will turn out as well.  I tend to think that it could go one of two ways: 1) It stays cold, and it also stays mostly dry.  So, with this scenario we could see snow, it just doesn’t look like much snow.  OR 2)  We do break our dry-spell, but the temps also warm a touch… which means mostly rain.  Either way, snow lovers don’t really win with this one.  Things look better for a winter storm next week.

Still a few more days to enjoy holiday goodies before our New Year’s resolutions kick in!  Have a great week.  – Bri
