A judge has refused to reduce bond for both Wisconsin girls accused of trying to kill their classmate in an attempt to please the fictional horror character Slender Man.
Judge Michael Bohren on Friday left the girls’ bond amounts at $500,000. The girls have been in custody for two years, and their attorneys say their families can’t afford the bond.
Authorities say the girls were 12 years old when they lured a classmate into the woods after a birthday sleepover and repeatedly stabbed her. Investigators say the girls hoped the 2014 attack would earn them a home in Slender Man’s mansion.
The victim was found bleeding alongside a road but survived.
The Associated Press hasn’t identified the defendants because their cases could move to juvenile court, where proceedings are closed.
