BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — Jury selection in the trial of a Massachusetts man charged with fatally stabbing another man during a dispute at a party two years ago is getting underway.
The Cape Cod Times reports that Kelly Ridley Jr.’s murder trial is opening Tuesday in Barnstable Superior Court.
The 20-year-old Ridley was 18 when he was charged with stabbing 26-year-old Thomas Russell at a party in Barnstable in October 2016. Both men were from Hyannis.
Prosecutors say Ridley punched Russell at the party and later, when the two were outside, picked up a scooter and struck him with it before pulling out a knife and stabbing him four to five times.
Ridley’s attorney does not dispute that his client stabbed Russell but says it was in self-defense.
