Eleven kayakers were pulled from the Hudson river Tuesday evening after being his by a ferry in the water.
According to police, the ferry was departing from a pier around 6 p.m. when it struck the boaters, knocking them into the river.
Members of the NYPD worked to pull the boaters out of the river and onto a rescue boat.
One kayaker is in critical condition after suffering an arm injury. Others had minor injuries.
Officials described the Hudson as a mixed-use waterway and said the kayakers were not in an area restricted to boaters.
A spokesperson for NY Waterway, the ferry’s operator, said it is cooperating with both the NYPD and the Coast Guard as they investigate.
