BOSTON (AP) — Two state lawmakers are demanding an end to most non-disclosure agreements in state government.
Democratic Sen. Diana DiZoglio and Republican Rep. Alyson Sullivan are also asking the state auditor to determine how many such agreements have been signed in recent years and at what cost to taxpayers — information state officials have so far refused to disclose.
The legislators say they fear non-disclosure pacts can be used to shield officials accused of sexual misconduct or prevent victims from speaking publicly about their ordeals.
Republican Gov. Charlie Baker says the agreements are only executed when requested by a victim.
DiZoglio has said she was forced out of her job as a legislative aide in 2011 and pressured into signing a non-disclosure agreement after unfounded rumors of inappropriate conduct with a legislator.
