Two people were seriously injured after a man who later told police he wanted to die, crashed head-on into their car.

The crash happened on Howard Street in Lawrence Wednesday night.

Deybet Blanco, 34 of Methuen, was traveling between 70 and 80 miles per hour in a 35-mile per hour zone when he crashed head-on into a Honda Accord, critically injuring the high school sweethearts.

Oscaris Pimintal, 18, and Julio Berrora, 19, went to prom together last year before graduating from Lawrence High School. Both were good kids and were popular, according to a school department spokesman.

According to police, Blanco was traveling on the wrong side of the road and told police when he was pulled from the wreckage of his pick up truck that he wanted to die. According to a police report, Blanco claimed he was possessed by the devil.

Neighbors who scrambled to free the victims were shaken by what they saw.

Blanco has been held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

The charges against him could be upgraded if the victims do not survive.
